Downtown and Rose Garden

The boys heading out into the woods to play airsoft. John set up a man-hunt in Estacada, he and Joe spent most of the day up there. Deb, Vaughn, Viv and I headed out to visit some of the Portland site. We hit the Hawthorne District for a little bit of shopping and then lunch. Afterwards we went over to the other side of town to spend some time in the Rose Garden. The Rose Festival was going on so the place was packed with people. We walked through the gardens and then over to NW 23rd for some coffee and more shopping.

Once the boys got back in town we all napped and then headed over to Benihana for birthday dinner for Viv and Vaughn. Viv ate everything put in front of her - rice, shrimp, steak, lobster, squash, onions, tofu and even some ice cream for dessert. We had a blast hanging out.

More Water Kitties

Woke up early and well-rested. There's something about sleeping on the water that lulls you to sleep through the night. I don't even think Viv got out in the night at all, maybe a peep for a binky but I don't even recall. What a blissful night sleep. Joe made breakfast for all of us and we kicked back for a little while. He and Vaughn hit the beach while the rest of us got ready. John/Joe got some beach balls when they went out last night, Viv/Vaughn were enjoying chasing them around the cabin.

Next stop was the NewPort aquarium just a bit further south from Lincoln City. We saw more water dogs (sea lions) and water kitties (otters) so Viv/Vaughn were stoking. Viv's eye got so big watching all the fish swim by and giggled along through out the visit. John got her a water kitty at the gift shop and she hugged it all day long.  She's still hugging it - it's the cutest thing.

Lunch was at Moe's in NewPort, the annex over the water. The neat thing about having both of them at lunch is you can order one kids meal and at thier age they can total share. So Mac and Cheese with Green Beans was on the menu for the lil one's at lunch. John had steamers - can't get enough of them and we had a nice time hanging out.

It was getting to be nap time so we decided to head back inland and let the kids sleep on the way. And sleep they did! Vaughn got up about 20 mins before we hit Wilsonville, but snoozing Viv slept the whole way. Nothing like a little napping after a big lunch. They are adorable in the car together. Joe/Deb rented a mini-van and the 2 car seats were in the second row next to each other. Viv and Vaughn would hold hands at different times through out our trips. Sharing blankets, maracas and even the occasional bottle.

Dinner was the standard Friday fare at Red Robin. Princess Viv was treated to balloons and singing. And then a long line of kisses from at least 5 of the waiters/waitresses. Everyone said the same thing, they couldn't believe it had been a whole year. Then of course the demands that I get started on another little bundle of cuteness. Please - are they getting cues from the grandparents?

Joe and John watched the kids while Deb and I hit the movies to see Sex and The City. It was pretty good, seemed to drag out a bit in parts but overall I dug it. I couldn't believe how crowded it was - a ton of women who were probably heading out for cosmo's after wards.

Grammy’s B-day and Heading to The Coast

No trip to Oregon is complete without heading out to the coast. We headed out mid-morning for Lincoln City and stopped Spirit Mountain Casino for lunch along the way. I was amazed that not a single bathroom had a changing table, but then again it's not a total family destination. We retaliated by letting the kids trash the restaurant =) Just kidding - they didn't trash it but two 1-year olds having lunch in a high-chair there is going to be a bit of a mess. The perks of eating out *grin*

Arrived at the coast around 3pm. It was a bit overcast and rainy, but beautiful none the less. We stayed right on the water, a little cabin/house called the Ester Lee. Perfect for having the munchkins, full kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a ton of space for crawling around. It was a great balance between renting a house for the night or staying in a hotel/condo room. John and I are thinking it would be a great place to hit again for a a few days.

After some napping we headed out to celebrate the newest DiBernardo - yes that's right Deb took a test in the am and a test again this afternoon. Her and Joe will be adding to the lil' munchkins in the house in about 8 months. Dinner was a little steak joint over looking the river. Ms. Viv went to town eating her pasta, which she usually does. Oooohhh - who's Mommies little piggy?

We staying up past our bed time a bit (yes, 10 pm - am I pathetic or what?) watching the sunset - close to 9:30 and sitting by the fire in the big chairs. Life doesn't get much better than snuggling with your sweeties on the coast. Keep the windows a bit cracked overnight to listen to the waves. We were on the side of a cliff about 100 feet up from the water - it was a neat sight.

Zoo-Rific

Yum Yum - some Starbucks to start the day and then it's off to the zoo. We were originally thinking about the Japanese Gardens, but Deb suggested the zoo might be fun. I wasn't sure the kids would check things out and hang - wow was I wrong. Vivian especially enjoyed the "underwater kitties" or as you and I call them "an otter". It was pretty amusing everything to Vaughn was pretty much a dog and to Viv everything was a tiger. Except the chimps, gorillas, mandrills and orangutans - they were all monkeys.

By the petting zoo there was an old tractor we got pictures. When Viv sat down the first thing she did was grab the steering wheel and the second thing was lean down to change the gear with the shifter. Oh yeah John was thrilled, she'll be learning how to drive a stick in no time. Zoila came with us for the day and fun was had by all.

Deb, Joe and Vaughn came over for dinner that night and we plotted/planned the rest of the activities. Like any dinner with 2 little kids, we were all up, down and switching chairs through the meal. It's really nice having someone with a kid the same age. Viv and Vaughn played around in the living room.  Vaughn would pull all the blocks/toys out of the school bus wagon and Viv would put them back in.

A match made in heaven!

The DiBernardos

Deb, Joe and Vaughn hit town tonight from Vermont. It is going to be fun hanging out with them. They are in town for the next week to kick it and play. I'm all jazzed about it and created a plan to hit all the cool places in town.

They are staying 3 exits up in Lake Oswego and we picked them up to head over to Bridgeport Village. Had dinner at PF Changs and caught up a little. Wow - who would've thought the 2 of us would be married w/kids hanging out trading cherrios vs. teddy grahams stories. Viv and Vaughn like holding hands.
